In rural New Zealand the "morning tea" break is traditionally a brief period from 10am to take a work break in which to drink a cup of tea and eat something.

For rural communities, it is also a form of supportive connections with neighbours. Often an informal catch up with each bringing a plate of baking and sharing stories.
